1. About these terms

These terms govern your use of topriv.com, the corporate website of topriv. By browsing this site you accept them. If you do not, please stop using the site.

This website is informational. It does not itself convert, store or transmit your files. Each of our products is a separate service with its own terms, and those terms, not these, govern your use of it:

2. Use of this website

You may read, quote and link to anything published here. What you may not do is attack it: no attempts to gain unauthorised access to the site or the server behind it, no probing or scanning outside the scope of a good-faith security report, no automated traffic heavy enough to degrade the service for other people, and no use of the site to distribute malware or to break the law.

We may block traffic that does any of the above, without notice.

3. Accuracy of the information here

We try hard to keep this site correct and current. Even so, product descriptions, feature lists, tool counts and technical explanations can fall behind the software they describe. Nothing on this website is a contractual commitment about how a product behaves. The product's own documentation and terms are the authority.

4. Research published in PrivLab

Our research section publishes measurements and findings from our own testing. We publish what we found and the conditions we found it under, and we deliberately withhold enough methodological detail that a study cannot be turned into a working attack.

These studies describe our own systems and test corpora. They are not a security audit of your systems, they are not professional security advice, and results measured in our environment may not reproduce in yours. Do not treat a finding here as a substitute for assessing your own infrastructure.

5. Intellectual property

The text, design, graphics, logos and code of this website belong to topriv and are protected by copyright and trademark law. The names topriv, PrivConvert, PrivDrop and PrivLab, and our logos, are our marks. You may not use them in a way that suggests we endorse or are affiliated with your product.

You are welcome to quote from our articles and studies for commentary, journalism, teaching or research, with attribution and a link back to the source page. You may not republish a page in full.

6. The .priv format

The .priv encrypted file format specification is published openly so that anyone can implement it, audit it, or read a .priv file without our software. The specification and our reference tooling are released under their own open-source licence terms, which are stated in their repositories and which take precedence over this section.

7. Links to other sites

This site links to third-party websites, including publications that have written about us. We do not control them and we are not responsible for their content, their accuracy or their privacy practices. A link is not an endorsement.

8. No warranty

This website is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or free of harmful components.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, topriv is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue or goodwill, arising out of your use of or inability to use this website. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

10. Security reports

If you find a vulnerability in this website or in any of our products, email [email protected] with the subject line "Security Report" and give us a description and the steps to reproduce it. Please give us a reasonable opportunity to fix the issue before publishing it.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by applicable international law. Any dispute shall be resolved in the jurisdiction of the site operator.

13. Contact

Questions about these terms go to [email protected].
